The Great Martyr’s Day and International Mother Language Day were celebrated with due solemnity and enthusiasm at the Bangladesh Embassy in Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark. Ambassador to Denmark in the morning Dr. K. M. Shahidul Karim inaugurated the day-long program by half-masting the national flag. After that, in the presence of all the officers and employees in the Embassy Auditorium, speeches were read out by the President, the Prime Minister, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs on the occasion of the day.
In the evening a special discussion program was organized in the embassy auditorium. The event was attended by Bangladeshi expatriates in Denmark, political figures, and people from all walks of life.
At the beginning of the discussion, a minute’s silence was observed to pay respect to the martyrs of various independence movements including the language movement. Later a documentary on recitation from the Holy Quran and language movement was screened. Expatriate Bangladeshis actively participated in the discussion program. The speakers highlighted various aspects and significance of Great Martyrs’ Day and International Mother Language Day in their discussions.
