Foreign Adviser Md Tauhid Hossain commented that India should get out of border killings for the sake of good relations between Bangladesh and India. He said that border killings are playing a very negative role in the relations between the two countries. Border killings are benefiting India – never heard anyone say that.
During the press briefing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday afternoon, the foreign adviser said these things in response to a question titled ‘What has not been done in Bangladesh’s strong protest against border killings’ The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh formally protested to the Indian government on September 5 against the border killings . However, BSF shot and killed a Bangladeshi at Baliadangi border in Thakurgaon on Monday.
In this regard, the foreign adviser said, we have strengthened the language of protest. That’s all we have to do right now. As we always say, border killing is a sensitive issue; Hope India will take this into consideration.
Bangladesh sent a protest note to the Indian High Commission after the shooting death of Bangladeshi teenager Swarna Das by BSF. Referring to that , the foreign adviser said, “We have clearly condemned the border killings and called for those involved in the killings to be brought to justice.” We will protest the same on yesterday’s (Monday) killings . Where there is an opportunity, we will talk about it.
In response to the question whether there has been any response from India after the protest, the foreign adviser said that no response has been received yet.
Note that the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) shot Swarna Das, a 13-year-old girl of Juri Upazila in Moulvibazar district on 01 September 2024. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh made a formal protest to the Indian government on September 5 in this incident.
