The 46th meeting of the National Task Force on Forcibly Displaced Myanmar Citizens was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs under the chairmanship of Foreign Secretary and Chairman of the National Task Force, Mr. Md. Jasim Uddin . Representatives of various UN agencies working in Bangladesh, representatives of the World Bank, the Commissioner for Refugees Relief and Repatriation, and representatives of various ministries, departments, and agencies of the government were present in the meeting.
The meeting discussed with various issues related to the forcibly displaced Myanmar citizens residing in Cox’s Bazar and Bhasan Char, such as the problems of Cox’s Bazar and Bhasan Char camps, infrastructure, electricity, health of Rohingyas, family planning, financing of the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank for the Rohingya and local people, and other general issues.
In addition, it highlights the new problems being created for Bangladesh due to the long-term presence of the Rohingya in Bangladesh. The overall security of the Rohingya camps and adjacent areas was emphasized. In addition, the aspect of managing the newly arrived Myanmar citizens was highlighted. The President specifically mentioned that the sustainable repatriation of forcibly displaced Myanmar citizens to Myanmar is the only solution to this problem. For this, he sought effective steps from all concerned.
The meeting called on the United Nations and the international community to provide the necessary funds for conducting humanitarian activities for the forcibly displaced Myanmar citizens. In addition, the UN representatives informed the meeting about the programs being conducted by the UN for the Rohingya in Rakhine. The meeting called on the UN to take coordinated and effective steps to create an environment conducive to repatriation in Rakhine.
