Lieutenant General Aziz Ahmed on Monday took over as the Chief of Bangladesh Army for three years.
He formally took over the charge from outgoing Army Chief General Abu Belal Muhammad Shafiul Huq, said a press release issued by the Inter Service Public Relation (ISPR).
The new Army chief will be adorned with the new rank badge of General jointly by the chiefs of Bangladesh Air Force and Bangladesh Navy in presence of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her official residence Ganobhaban on Tuesday morning, said ISPR Assistant Director Rezaul Karim Shammee.
Earlier on June 18, the government appointed Quarter Master General of Bangladesh Army Lt Gen Aziz Ahmed as the new Army chief.
The Ministry of Defence issued a gazette notification on the same day in this regard saying that his appointment will come into effect on June 25.
As Major General, Aziz Ahmed previously performed as the Director General of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), and the GOC of 33 Infantry Division stationed at Cumilla Cantonment.
Meanwhile, outgoing Army chief General Abu Belal Muhammad Shafiul Huq went into leave preparatory to retirement (LPR) after handing over his charge to the new Army chief on completion of his term.
