The 5th International Day of Yoga celebrated in Dhaka

The High Commission of India, Dhaka celebrated the 5th International Day of Yoga (IDY) on 21 June 2019 with around 7000 people doing Yoga together at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka. H.E. Dr. A. K. Abdul Momen, Hon’ble Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Mr. Md. Nurul Islam Sujan, Hon’ble Railway Minister and H.E. Mr. Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, Hon’ble State Minister of Shipping of Bangladesh graced the program. High Commissioner Smt. Riva Ganguly Das delivered the welcome remarks.

The celebrations of IDY commenced with the screening of a video message of Shri Narendra Modi, Hon’ble Prime Minister of India. Sports associations, Yoga associations and Institutes, students from various schools, colleges and universities in Bangladesh participated in the celebrations of IDY. Several celebrities including sports personalities, popular film actors, singers etc. participated in the event.
Experts and students of Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre (IGCC) demonstrated Common Yoga Protocol and yoga asanas. Similar events were also organized in other cities of Bangladesh by the HCI and Assistant High Commissions of India. Apart from the above, various other Yoga organizations and Institutes also organized separate programmes to mark the IDY event today.
