The closing ceremony of the final part of the Diplomacy Education Program organized by Global Action was held today (28 April 2023) at the Headquarters of the World Food Programme (WFP), Rome. Students who participated in the GAMUN (Global Action Model United Nations) simulation program received Awards in various categories. ‘Liceo Galileo Galilei School’ which was adopted by Bangladesh Embassy in Rome in the ‘Embassy Adoption Programme’ (EAP) received two Best Awards namely, Best Delegation & Best Social Media Team Awards respectively of GAMUN for the year 2023. The Italian students earned these Awards by representing Bangladesh and by competing with students of different schools adopted by thirty-two Embassies in Rome.
Md. Shameem Ahsan, Bangladesh Ambassador to Italy, Montenegro, and Serbia and Permanent Representative to FAO, IFAD, and WFP, Rome, and immediate former President of the Executive Board of WFP, also spoke along with other invited panelists/Ambassadors at the concluding ceremony. Bangladesh Ambassador warmly congratulated the students of the adopted school along with other Awardees and also thanked Global Action for organizing the event successfully which witnessed participation by 800 young delegates and students acting as journalists, social media managers, and experts- representing 32 Embassies and Permanent Representations based in Rome in the Final Simulation GAMUN between 24-28 April 2023. Bangladesh Ambassador sincerely thanked the WFP for hosting the inaugural and closing ceremony of the GAMUN.
Fifteen students of Liceo Galileo Galilei School from Macomer, Sardinia along with two teachers and School Principal and one representative of Global Action visited the Bangladesh Embassy on 27 April 2023 as a part of the Second Step (Meet the Embassy) of the Embassy Adoption Programme (EAP). The Ambassador and all Officers briefed them on the activities of the Embassy and responded to their queries. Later, students and faculties were taken on a short tour to ‘Bangabandhu Corner’, consular service areas, and the makeshift Shahid Minar (Martyr’s Monument) at the compound. Then, the Ambassador handed over souvenirs and Embassy publications to the students and faculties while the school team also shared mementos. It was followed by lunch with traditional Bangladeshi cuisine. It may be noted here that the Bangladesh Ambassador visited the same school in Macomer, Sardinia on 13 January 2023 as a part of the First Step (Meet the School) of EAP and presented Bangladesh to a large number of young learners.
The Embassy has been actively participating in this program in collaboration with Global Action since 2021 and it is the second time that the school adopted by Bangladesh Embassy got the Best Delegation Award while it received another Best Award for the first time (Best Social Media). The engagement is a part of the Embassy’s ongoing public diplomacy drive to portray a positive image of Bangladesh to the wider audience in Italy. Global Action is a non-profit Italian organization, enjoying Special Consultative Status with the UN ECOSOC, which aims to promote global knowledge to young leaders.
