The United Nations Resident Coordinator (UNRC), Ms. Gwyn Lewis paid a call on the Foreign Secretary Amb. Md. Jashim Uddin today at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Resident Coordinator congratulated the Foreign Secretary for assuming his new position and expressed her willingness to further strengthen and broaden the Bangladesh-UN partnership.
The Foreign Secretary extended his felicitations on the occasion of 50th anniversary of Bangladesh-UN partnership this year and expressed gratitude to the UN entities for their support in the development journey of Bangladesh since the early days of her independence.
The Foreign Secretary highlighted the pivotal importance of the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) 2022-2026 for Bangladesh. He also mentioned that the Interim Government is working closely with the UNRC and other stakeholders for the Smooth Transition Strategy (STS) to manage the challenges associated with the graduation from the LDC bracket.
Both parties also exchanged their views on the issues of Human Rights, Rule of Law, Good Governance, and the response of the international community to repatriate the forcibly displaced Rohingya population. The Foreign Secretary recognized the efforts of the UN Agencies and other development partners in providing emergency humanitarian services to the Rohingya people in Bangladesh through the yearly Joint Response Plans (JRP).
The Resident Coordinator thanked the Foreign Secretary for the meeting, while the Foreign Secretary assured her of the Interim Government’s full cooperation in the UN development endeavours for Bangladesh.
