The United Nations has said it stands ready to work with the new government of Bangladesh and other national stakeholders to further efforts towards a peaceful and inclusive society, good governance and the rule of law in line with the 2030 Agenda, notably SDG 16.
“We look forward to Bangladesh implementing its human rights commitments arising from the Universal Periodic Review and international treaties to bring about positive change for all in the country,” said the UN office in Dhaka on Sunday.
Peace, justice and strong institutions are highlighted in the goal 16 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The SDGs aim to significantly reduce all forms of violence, and work with governments and communities across the world to find lasting solutions to conflict and insecurity.
The UN also welcomed the government of Bangladesh taking an active role as a new member of the Human Rights Council.
