The Embassy of Bangladesh in Qatar observed today, “National Mourning Day” – the 43rd death anniversary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, with due solemnity.
In the morning, the programme started with hoisting of the national flag at half-mast by Ambassador Ashud Ahmed at the embassy premises in presence of the embassy officials and community members of various classes & professions. In this connection, the embassy chalked out a day long programme. After hoisting the national flag, Ashud Ahmed along with Embassy officials placed floral wreaths in front of the portrait of Bangabandhu.
The discussion meeting on the life and works of the Father of the Nation was arranged which started with recitation from The Holy Quran followed by a minute’s silence in standing by everybody as the mark of profound respect to the memories of the Father of the Nation and the martyrs of August 15, 1975. In the meeting, the messages from President, Prime Minister, Foreign Minister and State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh on the National Mourning Day were read out. In his speech, Ambassador Ashud Ahmed recalled the heroic leadership role played by Bangabandhu in the emergence of Bangladesh as an independent country. He mentioned that the August 15 is the darkest chapter in the history of Bangladesh. He also said as a nation we must learn a lesson here – our mourning should be turned into our strength and we should work hard to fulfill the dream of the Father of the Nation.
He thanked the expatriate Bangladeshis in Qatar for their hard work and contribution to nation-building, towards fulfilling the dream of Bangabandhu and for demonstrating unity, fraternity, liberal and a moderate attitude. At the end of day’s programme, a Doa and Milad Mahfil was offered seeking the eternal peace of Bangabandhu, martyrs of August 15 and also for the continued peace and prosperity of Bangladesh. A good number of Bangladeshi Journalists, community & Political, social & sociocultural leaders were present to observe the day.
A documentary on the life and works of Bangabandhu was also screened during the event.
