The Bangladesh Embassy in Mexico City joyfully celebrated Eid Ul Fitr Reunion and Bengali New Year 1431 with a vibrant event on May 06, 2024, at the University Claustro de Sor Juana. The event was attended by approximately 100 students and members of the Bengali community.
The festivities commenced with the traditional “Procession for Wellbeing (MongalShovajatra)” at the University premises, featuring students, faculty, Embassy officials, local dignitaries, and members of the Bengali community, accompanied by the iconic “esho hey boishakh” song. The procession showcased a stunning array of ‘PohelaBoishakh’ masks and captivating festoons, crafted during a 2-day workshop attended by around 25 enthusiastic students.
Dean Carmen Beatriz Lopez Portillo congratulated the Bangladesh Embassy on Bengali New Year 1431 and expressed gratitude for hosting the event at the university, envisioning it as a platform for mutual cultural exchange and youth engagement.
Ambassador Abida Islam extended warm thanks to the Dean and university authorities for hosting the event with the Embassy of Bangladesh. She thanked Claustro students for their enthusiastic engagement in the mask painting workshop, symbolizing Bangladesh’s cultural heritage, akin to Dhaka University’s art students. She extended Eid and Bengali New Year wishes to the attendees and thanked them for enriching the gathering and contributing to cultural exchange by participating in the “Procession for Wellbeing (MongalShovajatra),” a UNESCO tradition.
The event featured Boishakhi dances by Mexican performers, adding to the cultural exchange and enchanting the audience.
The atmosphere was reminiscent of Bangladesh in Mexico City, filled with joy and celebration, culminating in the serving of traditional Bangladeshi delicacies like panta rice, vartas, and semai, enhancing the cultural experience.
