Bangladesh High Commission Ottawa in Canada Celebrates World Children’s Day and Children’s Rights Week 2024.

The Bangladesh High Commission in Ottawa commemorated World Children’s Day and Children’s Rights Week 2024 with a special event held at the High Commission premises on 07 October 2024. The celebration, chaired by Her Excellency Ms. Nahida Sobhan, High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Canada, brought together representatives from the Bangladeshi-Canadian community along with children.

The event featured an Art Competition organized by the High Commission to engage children living in Canada. The competition was divided into two categories:

  • Ages 5-10: Theme – My Motherland
  • Ages 11-15: Theme – Future World

Participants from various provinces across Canada contributed creative artworks based on these two themes.

High Commissioner Sobhan announced the winners of the competition and commended all participants for their

artistic efforts and contributions to the celebration of children’s rights.

Winners of the Art Competition:Ages 5-10:

  1. 1st Place: Zunair Ahmed Chowdhury
  2. 2nd Place: Ahnaf Shahriar (Ottawa, ON)
  3. 3rd Place (jointly): Abyat Izhaan Hridit (Ottawa, Ontario) and Sariba Ahmed (Ottawa,

ON)Ages 11-15:

  1. 1st Place: Shehzeen Manha Chowdhury
  2. 2nd Place (jointly): Abantika Purkayastha (Ottawa, ON) and Ahmed Ahnaf (Ottawa, ON)
  3. 3rd Place: Arka Biswas (Vancouver, BC)

Speaking directly to the children, the High Commissioner remarked, “This day is for you. It celebrates your creativity, your rights, and your potential to shape the future. You are the heart of our community, and we are committed to ensuring that your voices are heard and your talents are nurtured.”

The event concluded with a cake-cutting ceremony, led by the High Commissioner alongside the participating children, symbolizing a joyful close to the celebration.
