Report by Humayun Kabir, from Portugal, Bangladesh Embassy in Lisbon celebrated the 91st Birth Anniversary of Bangamata Fazilatun Nesa Mujib on Sunday, 08 August 2021 with due fervour and solemnity. In view of restrictions imposed by the Portuguese Government due to the covid-19 pandemic and the somberness of the month of mourning, the event was held on a limited scale in terms of physical participation and festivity.
The programme began with reading out of messages of President Md. Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Fazilatun Nessa Indira, MP, Minister of State, Ministry of Women & Children Affairs released on the occasion, by officers of the Embassy.
This followed a discussion session on the life and works of Bangamata Fazilatun Nesa Mujib at the Embassy premises. Officers and the members of staff of the Embassy took part in the discussion, highlighting the glorious life of Bangamata Fazilatun Nesa Mujib and her contributions to the history of Bangladesh.
In his speech, Ambassador Tarik Ahsan paid rich tribute to the memory of Bangamata Fazilatun Nesa Mujib. He mentioned that Bangamata was a source of endless strength and constant encouragement for the Father of the Nation. She helped Bangabandhu make crucial decisions of his political life. During the period of Bangabandhu’s imprisonment of about 13 years, she did not only take care of the family but also relentlessly supported his political party. He remarked that, leading a very simple life even after liberation, despite being the wife of a Prime Minister. Bangamata contributed to the rehabilitation of the war-ravaged society and helped many Beerangona’s to lead a normal life. Ambassador added that Bangamata Fazilatun Nesa Mujib was not just a source of inspiration for womenfolk but also a pride for the whole Bangalee nation.
A video documentary on the life and contribution of Bangamata Fazilatun Nesa Mujib was screened after the discussion session.
Finally, a special prayer was offered seeking divine blessings for Bangamata Fazilatun Nesa Mujib, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, all other the martyred members of his family as well as for the continued peace, progress and prosperity of the country.
