The Ministry of Foreign Affairs organized a seminar titled “2024 G20: Priorities for Brazilian Presidency” on 8 April 2024, Monday, at the Foreign Service Academy. Ambassador Mauro Vieira, Foreign Minister of Brazil, delivered a keynote speech outlining Brazil’s priorities as the current President of the G20. He emphasized that Brazil has placed the topic of inequality, in all its dimensions, at the center of the G20’s agenda.
He also said that President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva of Brazil identified three key priorities for Brazil’s G20 Presidency under the motto “Building a Just World and a Sustainable Planet”: (1) social inclusion and the fight against hunger and poverty; (2) energy transitions and the promotion of sustainable development across economic, social, and environmental aspects; and (3) reform of global governance institutions. “Considering the similarities between President Lula’s and Prime Minister Hasina’s world views, policies, and priorities, in particular their quest for development and social justice, conditions are set for our bilateral relations to upscale,” he remarked regarding bilateral ties between the two countries.
Ambassador Masud Bin Momen, Foreign Secretary (Senior Secretary), delivered the welcome address. Three distinguished speakers from civil society— Ms. Runa Khan, Founder & Executive Director of Friendship; Ms. Zahida Fizza Kabir, CEO of Sajida Foundation; and Dr. M. Masrur Reaz, Chairman & CEO of Policy Exchange Bangladesh—also shared their insights from their respective areas of expertise. Ambassador Mashfee Binte Shams, Rector of the Foreign Service Academy, extended the vote of thanks after the event.
