The ‘Sport for Tomorrow Judo Championship 2019’ was jointly organised by the Embassy of Japan and Bangladesh Judo Federation at Shaheed Suhrawardi Indoor Stadium on Saturday, 26 January.
Total 109 female Judo athletes from 21 sports organisations, educational institutions and clubs of districts such as Dhaka, Barisal, Rajshahi, Chapai Nawabgang, Mymensingh, Sherpur, Brahmonbaria, Narayanganj and Jessore participated in the tournament with enthusiasm.
Judo is one of Japanese traditional martial sports which is practiced all over the world. It also has been an Olympic sport since 1964. As the host country of 2020 Summer Olympic Games, Japan has been promoting sports to more than 10 million people in over 100 countries under Sport for Tomorrow Initiative. This Judo Championship was also held to encourage Bangladeshi women Judo athletes to enhance their skills and participation in the sport.
