The High Commissioner of India, Mr. Harsh Vardhan Shringla visited Chandpur on 05 October 2018.The High Commissioner commenced his visit by attending the commissioning of the completed academic building, named ‘Mahatma Gandhi Bhaban’, at the Farakkabad Degree College, Chandpur. The single storey building with provision for adding three additional floors has been built at a cost of BDT 1.08 Crore and has been fully funded by the Government of India. This project was inaugurated by the Hon’ble External Affairs Minister of India, Smt. Sushma Swaraj during her visit to Bangladesh in October 2017. The building will contribute significantly towards the higher education of the rural community in Chandpur. The ceremony to commission the building was also attended by students and their parents, villagers, local leaders, Muktijoddhas etc. Shri Sujit Roy Nandi, Founder and Chairman of the Farakkabad Degree College; and Mr. Md. Hasan Khan, Principal, Farakkabad Degree College were also present.
The High Commissioner then attended a luncheon meeting hosted by Dr. Dipu Moni, Hon’ble Member of Parliament from Chandpur-3 constituency, where he interacted with the local community. He subsequently inaugurated two multi-storey buildings housing a student’s hostel, a charitable dispensary, and a library at the Sri Ramakrishna Ashram, Chandpur in the presence of Dr. Dipu Moni. This will assist the local community. He also visited Ayachak Ashram, Chandpur with Dr. Dipu Moni and interacted with the Ashram residents and devotees. A humanitarian and religious institution helping the needy, poor and sick, Ayachak Ashram was founded by Akhandamandaleshwar Shri Shrimat Swami Swarupananda Paramhansa Deva, who was born in Puran Adalotpara, Chandpur.
The visit ended with a dinner hosted by the Hon’ble Minister of Disaster Management and Relief of Bangladesh, H.E. Mr. Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, Member of Parliament from Chandpur-2. The High Commissioner also addressed a large gathering and interacted with a cross-section of the local community during the reception and exchanged views on socio-economic development in the rural areas of Bangladesh.
