A Malaysian delegation led by H.E. Senator Liew Chin Tong Deputy Minister of Defence, Malaysia visited the camp of forcibly displaced Myanmar Citizens and Field Hospital established by Malaysia on 16 May 2019 in Cox’s Bazar. The delegation interacted with residents of camp, local admnistration and different NGOs during the visit. The community leaders, on behalf of residents of the camp, expressed to the minister about their urge to return to their own land.
They also requested the mininsterto extend support from ASEAN nations to settle the issue.The minister assured continued support from Malaysia to fulfil the needs of forcibly displaced Myanmar Citizens. He expressed his gratitude to all concerned with a special mention of Bangladesh Army for supporting the smooth function of the Malaysian Field Hospital. The ministersincerely acclaimed the role of government and the people of Bangladesh forproviding humanitarian support to thesepersecutedpeople due to timely decision of Hon’ble Prime Minister of Bangladesh.
The delegation arrived in Bangladesh on 14 May 2019 on an invitation of Major General Tarique Ahmed Siddique, rcds, psc (Retd) Security Adviser to the Hon’ble Prime Minister of Bangladesh. The visit is being conducted by Bangladesh Army with overall supervision of Armed Forces Division. The delegation called on Security Adviser to Hon’ble Prime Minister of Bangladesh on 14 May 2019. An Iftar programme was also hosted in honor of the delegation on the same day.The delegation visited National Defence College, Mirpur Cantonment and UNHCR office in Dhaka on 15 May 2019and exchanged their views.
The Malaysian delegation will depart on 18 May 2019 after completion of the visit.
