Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will be awarded with the prestigious Global Women’s Leadership Award in recognition of her leadership role in expansion of women education and women entrepreneurship in Bangladesh, Asia and Asia-pacific region.
Global Summit of Women, a US-based NGO, will confer the award, a lifetime honour, to the Bangladesh premier during the “2018 Global Summit of Women” in Sydney, Australia on April 27. Sheikh Hasina will leave Dhaka for Sydney Thursday afternoon to attend the two-day summit beginning on April 26 at the invitation of her Australian counterpart Malcolm Turnbull, said Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali at a press briefing on the PM’s visit in the capital on Tuesday.
However, Ali said the Global Summit of Women also invited Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to attend the conference. She is invited to attend the 2018 Global Summit of Women for what the foreign minister said ensuring gender equality in Bangladesh. Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe got the award last year. Besides, former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and former Unesco Director General Irina Bokova were among the recipients of this award.
Hasina will receive the award on April 27 at a ceremony when she will highlight the government’s initiatives for women’s empowerment and mainstreaming them in the national development in her speech
. During her visit, Hasina will have a bilateral meeting with her Australian counterpart on April 28 when both sides will mainly focus on education, sports, human resources development, trade and investment, energy, power, agriculture and ICT. The prime minister last visited Australia in 2011 to attend the 22nd Commonwealth Summit. Ali hoped that
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Australia visit will add a new dimension to the relations between the two countries apart from strengthening Bangladesh’s ties with others Commonwealth countries.
She will return home in the early hours on April 30.
